Our festival ended on a high note (has it ever left it...) with yet another brilliant performance by Krystyna Janda.
Biała Bluzka turned out to live up to the promise: a thrilling look back on the not-too-thrilling times just ahead of the Polish martial law of 1981. World-class theatre came to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk on September 8th 2010 - surely a night to remember for everyone in attendance. Have a look at a few photographs from the event here.

Marek Weiss' opera Macbeth premiered in Gdańsk on September 5th in the Baltic State Opera in Gdańsk. Lady Macbeth and Macbeth (below) impressed the audience with their voices as much as with their acting performances. See photographs here.

August 29th: World Premiere of Paweł Mykietyn's VIVO XXX at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk was performed to a standing ovation of the audience that featured the legendary Solidarity leader and former President Lech Wałęsa, as well as the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The official handprint ceremony in the Alley of the Stars (courtyard of the Philharmonic) - starring the prodigy composer - took place prior to the concert. See photographs from both events here.

Although we all hoped Możdżer+ was going to be a jazz event to remember, it still did exceed our expectations. Our artists’ mastery and the attitude that they approached the project with were what made the evening so special. It certainly has a chance of living long in the memory of all jazz enthusiasts in Poland. And it will probably be a fond memory for Leszek Możdżer and for the brilliant musicians who came to Gdańsk to play with him too. See photographs.

Down-to-earth as they turned out to be, the stars of the Możdżer+ show arrived at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic courtyard looking not exactly sure what the big deal about their presence there was. Still, all those who came to watch looked really happy that the brilliant musicians agreed to come and leave their (permanent) mark here in Gdańsk, Poland. Marcus Miller even did a few push-ups on his imprint (one-handed, to the mix of disbelief and delight of everyone) and Eddie Daniels moonwalked his way through the red carpet (for lack of a better word to describe an act that must have surprised its performer himself). Two hours later they were part of a show that will live very long in the memory of everyone present. See photographs.

The 2010 Solidarity of Arts music workshops took place in Gdańsk between 18th and 19th of August. Everyone knew of Naná's, Charles', Eddie's and Mirabai's musical ability. That they were going to be entertaining and curious teachers ready to make their classes both fun and useful for the participants was in turn not a given to anyone before the festival. Luckily for all concerned, they turned out to be just that. Click on each of the below photos to see more.
